What is CityDrop?

CityDrop is a free geography guessing game played on a world map. Each round names a place — a city, a country or a landmark — and you drop a pin where you think it is. The closer your pin, the more points you score.

Five rounds, 1,000 each
Every round is worth up to 1,000 points, so a perfect game is 5,000. Points fall away with distance, so a good regional guess still scores.
Free, no download
Plays in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop. No account needed to start — an account saves your progress and puts you on the leaderboards.
Hundreds of places
Cities, whole countries and famous landmarks across every continent, from the obvious ones to places that make you stop and think.

It is quick to learn and genuinely hard to master. A round takes about fifteen seconds, a game about three minutes, and every reveal teaches you something you can use in the next one.

How a round works

How the game works

One location per round, one guess per round. Everything else is about reading the map well.

STEP 1
You're given a place
A city, a country or a landmark appears at the top of the screen. In Easy city rounds you also get the country's flag as a hint.
STEP 2
You drop a pin
Pan and zoom the map, then tap where you think it is. You can move your pin as many times as you like before confirming.
STEP 3
The answer is revealed
The real location appears, your distance from it is measured, and the round is scored out of 1,000. Normal games are untimed.
STEP 4
Five rounds, then your total
Your five round scores add up to a game total out of 5,000, with a breakdown of your best and worst round, average distance and accuracy.
Scoring in one line: cities and landmarks are scored on distance to the exact spot — within 10 km is a perfect 1,000, within 50 km is 900. Countries are scored on borders instead, so a click anywhere inside the right country scores the full 1,000 and even a near miss still scores well.

Modes and difficulty

Three ways to read the map

Pick a mode for what you're being asked, and a difficulty for how much help you get. Everything below can be played in Practice, which is unlimited and untimed.

Difficulty levels
Easy
Famous, recognisable places — and the country flag as a hint on city rounds.
Medium
Less obvious locations, and no flag hint. You're expected to know the region.
Hard
Smaller, trickier places — the ones you either know or you don't.
Hardcore
No borders or labels on the map, and 10 seconds per round. The only timed mode.
Choose where you play: the whole world, a single continent (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania), or one country from the playable list — Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China and India.
Every day

The Daily Challenge

One game a day, the same five locations for every player in the world. It resets at 12:00 AM Melbourne time, so there is always a fresh challenge waiting.

One attempt
You get a single shot at the day's five locations — the same ones everyone else is playing, so scores are directly comparable.
Streaks
Finish on consecutive days to build a streak, with milestone bonuses at 3, 7, 14, 30 and 100 days. Your current streak sits at the top of this page.
Bonus XP
Completing the daily awards extra XP, and a perfect run awards more. Daily results also feed your level and achievements.
Play with other people: create a private game for 2 to 4 players and share the code, join a Quick Match for a random 1v1, or use Challenge a Friend after a solo game to send someone your exact five locations. How multiplayer works
What makes it different

Why play CityDrop?

There are plenty of map games. These are the choices that make this one worth your time.

Countries scored on borders
Most guessing games measure distance to a point. CityDrop's Country mode scores whether you landed inside the right borders, which makes big countries a fair test rather than a lottery.
Untimed unless you ask
Practice is unlimited and has no clock, so you can think a round through properly. Hardcore is the deliberate exception: 10 seconds, no borders, no labels.
Region-first scoring
Points fade gradually with distance instead of falling off a cliff, so knowing roughly where something is always beats guessing blindly.
Feedback that teaches
Every round ends with the real location, your distance and your accuracy, plus per-game stats. You learn the place whether you got it right or not.
A real geography guide
The site includes original guides on city-name patterns, map-reading clues, world regions, borders and landmarks — written to make you better, not to pad a page.
No download, no account
It runs in a browser on any device. Guests can play every mode, and an account simply makes progress permanent and comparable.
